CPD- SUMMER TIME END OF THE COURSE ABOUT DUBLINERS - READING THE DEAD

The End of the  Course about  Dubliners   with  Edx.org

This week was my  last  week spent on reading  the short stories by  Joyce.   I read  " Dubliners" and I was guided into a   journey about the many films, videos  based on the  work by the Irish writer.

The Dead : the short story  and the film based on it .

It is the story can closes the  collection  and it is a  true  mirror of times , I want to underline that the writer described a  great setting about the dinner and the  Irish people who were sitting at the table.
When reading the story we learn about  how people were living their life in Dublin just a few years   before  the Easter Rising. The ideas were  spreading and more people wanted a change.

The film by  John Huston  The Dead  was great. I saw it last year and I  must confess that I was deeply touched by the end of the story and by the choices of the film director in the film.  Here is  a  short  video about  it :

Importance of music and sounds in the  short story and in the film: listen to the song    " The Lass of Aughrim" :

I have also discovered that it is possible to  take part in a virtual dinner party:

JAMES JOYCE THE DEAD

If you follow the link you can  book  your  virtual dinner next year  in January.

Watch and listen to the presentation of the place, the place where  Joyce  used to go when he was living in Ireland :
