Teaching Shakespeare today- ROMEO AND JULIET - DIDACTIC REFLECTIONS

     ROMEO AND JULIET :studying  Shakespeare  in the  XXI Century


Right now I am working on line to write an activity for a MOOC Course with COURSERA.

 I am  trying to present an activity- a lesson- as part of  a project while  I  am teaching  English . My idea is to integrate the new tools( searching the web, making presentation, critical thinking) with
what  most of  language  teachers have studied at university ( litearature): the tragey  Romeo and Juliet by   William Shakespeare.  Teaching   love,death   in one  the most  important tragedies by the Bard can be difficult but also interesting.   The idea is to visit   VERONA, I am  Italian and  if my students want to do it  to  go to London and  see the Globe and learn more about  this play.
My idea is to work  on Project Based Learning  and having  students who work from home and at school on the play  Romeo and Juliet.   I would like them to study and learn on their own, to present what they still can find today in the  world of poetry, in films and also  in their attitude to love.
The teacher is the supervisor who provides


  •  HELP  and KNOWLEDGE
  •  TOOLS  (  prezi but also thinglink) and  help the student  to  WRITE on line
  • MONITORS  the students' use of the language  ( English) while they are working at home and  on line ( the class blog should be  in English of  course)
  •  uses  grids for observing the students while they are working at school and while they are presenting their  posts on the blog or in front of the class 


The final project  should be  a blog  shared by all the  students who are working on Shakespeare's play, because " blogging" is today a new  experience for  writing  while they are  working together under  the supervision of the  TEACHER.

The following presentation with lots of information is provided by the teacher to all the students  who will later work on the project.

My introduction is a presentation on line which can be  followed from home and at school  since they just need internet  access and a personal  computer at home, a tablet or a smartphone.
